A $1.5 million renovation has started on Bradford Hall.
The renovation will include remodeling and expansion, according to Jenifer Linton, KSU’s facilities director.
“What everyone is seeing right now is the floor replacement in the classrooms, hallways and study areas,” said Linton.
David H. Bradford Hall at Kentucky State University houses the business and music programs, as well as the 900-seat Carl H. Smith Auditorium, 250-seat theatre, and multimedia lecture classrooms. During the renovation in Bradford, classes normally held in Bradford have been moved to Hathaway Hall. Some professors’ offices also have been moved temporarily to Hathaway. Students have been wondering when they will be able to get back in and go back to that normal routine of making that walk to Bradford Hall instead of adding 5 minutes to their walk to attend class in Hathaway. There are two phases, said Linton.
“Renovations have started, and changes have been made tremendously within the last week.”
Linton also mentioned that on Nov. 28, 2023, at the Board of Regents meeting, KSU was given approval to allocate $1.5 million in Asset Preservation Funds for renovation. Title III funds will allow for construction, maintenance, renovation, and improvement in classrooms, laboratories, and other instructional facilities, including purchase or rental of telecommunications and technology equipment or services.
Deanna Brown, the director of Finance and Administration, said that the Title III funds are being used for the renovations of the School of Business and Music.
While the project is currently under design with an outside professional architect, the main scope will be window replacements and updating the entryways to make the building more inviting.
“We now have a president who knows and understands the value of students having a quality, living, learning and educational environment,” Brown said
