Frankfort, KY — The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Brickhouse Pageant, organized by The Majestic Psi Psi Chapter (“So Nice They Had to Name It Twice”) at Kentucky State University, is making waves for its empowering message and celebration of body positivity. The event, held annually, aims to uplift and encourage women of all shapes and sizes; particularly those with plus size and curvier figures, to embrace their natural beauty and confidence.
Bubba Johnson, a key organizer of the event, shared his thoughts on the pageant’s mission. “The pageant is all about promoting body positivity so plus-size and curvy young women can feel comfortable. We live in a world today where it’s a lot of body shaming going on,” Johnson stated. His words resonate deeply in a society that often places unrealistic standards on women’s bodies.
Johnson emphasized the importance of forming lasting relationships through the event. “With this pageant we want to make sure bonds are formed and everyone stays connected for a lifetime,” he said. The pageant is not just a competition but a platform for building supportive and enduring friendships.
Confidence is a central theme of the pageant, and Johnson is passionate about instilling this trait in the participants. “Confidence plays a big part in life and I want these ladies to know that how you feel about yourself is how you will present yourself. Having a sense of certainty going out into the world will pose as a great skill to have. I say that because no matter what anyone says or thinks, if you are confident no one can stop you,” he explained. His message is clear: self-assurance is key to overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
Johnson also offered advice to the contestants, urging them to remain authentic and positive. “Just be yourself. Do not try to be something you are not, be well-rounded with school your personal and professional life and always think positive about yourself,” he advised.
The Omega Psi Phi Brickhouse Pageant stands as a beacon of encouragement and empowerment, fostering a community where all women can feel valued and confident. The event will take place September 12th at 7:11Pm in Co-Op building room 238.
