Frankfort Ky – The Kentucky State University Basketball teams played in a double header against Fort Valley State University with both the women and men’s teams taking home exciting wins.
The evening started out with the Lady Thorobreds, who celebrating a thrilling win against a battle tested Fort Valley team. This win was the culmination of stellar play from the team’s new additions, including standout guard Diara McBroom who recorded a double–double. McBroom’s 11 points and 10 rebounds helped set the pace of the game while she also had help from other key contributors on her team like Bailey Lee who also had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Although the game was close this victory showcased the Lady Thorobred’s ability to play down the stretch and close out tightgames. Even though it seemed like Fort Valley was inching closer, the Thorobreds never let up.
In the next match of the double header the Kentucky State Men’s Basketball also faced off against Fort Valley in a double overtime thriller.
In a game packed with intensity and drama, the Kentucky State University Men’s basketball team outlasted the Fort Valley Wildcats. This game was led by career best performances from Lavar Miller Jr. and Aziel Blackwell.
Miller led the day in scoring with 33 points on 10-27 shooting. It seemed like he couldn’t miss as he lit up the court, ending the night with 8 three pointers made. Blackwell wasn’t too far behind though ending the game with 20 points 3 assists and 2 rebounds, while shooting 5-13 from the field. Down the stretch Blackwell hit clutch free throws to put the game into overtimeand inevitably lead the charge for the Thorobreds to come out victorious.
Miller and Blackwell emerged as the stars of the night, delivering clutch plays and leading the offensive charge. Their standout efforts not only set personal records but also inspired their teammates during critical moments. The Thorobreds capitalized on these performances to outlast a determined Fort Valley State squad in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
