Frankfort Ky – Over Kentucky State’s History, up to this point, 18 people have been the president of this university (3 when it was called State Normal School for Colored, 6 as Kentucky Industrial Institiute, 2 as Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored, 1 as Kentucky State College for Negroes, 1 as Kentucky State College, and 9 as the now, Kentucky State University).
Now KSU have their 19th President, Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo. While Dr. Akakpo has been on the university’s grounds since last year,September 20th marked his official nomination as the school’s new president. The ceremony was such a grand event that the students and community had the privilege to attend. The overall presentation for the students and attendees were required to dress in business attire to make the event as professional as possible.
A little background about Dr. Akakpo’s success before joining the Thorobreds, Akakpo had some success outside of the state of Kentucky before his arrival at KSU. He has two master’s degree under his name, Science degree from the University of Lomé and Business from the University of Ashland, a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Toledo and has a handful of other accomplishments under his belt.
The inauguration was held at Bradford Hall on September 20th, Akakpo’s Presidential Inauguration ceremony was a very captivating and welcoming event. With musical selections performed by some of the students, words and thanks from the daughters of Dr. Akakpo, and even video messages from the 63rd Governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear and Kentucky’s Senior Senator, Mitch McConnell. Both of which surprised the students and attendees when they appeared during the ceremony. Akakpo himself gave a good speech about his upbringing before his arrival to KSU, and stated that Kentucky State be one of the world’s leading academic research and institutions, and a provider of a
Rethinking about this ceremony and having the privilege to meet Dr. Akakpo. He will be a great president for the school as he seems down to Earth, willing to listen to the students, and overall has a welcoming and humble attitude that you can easily connect to.
