The Kentucky State Thorobreds beat arch rivals Central State Marauders
51-47 this past during mini homecoming with double-doubles from upperclassmen
junior forward Khalia Bryant and senior forward Mondrea Williams.

Williams was putting in work on the glass with a career high of 17 rebounds and finished with 12
points, while Bryant made 9-of-10 free-throw attempts for 13 points and 13 rebounds. Naja
Fenelon, a senior guard, made some key plays as well, leading the team with 14 points, hitting
six of her seven shots from the field while going two-for-three from behind the arc.

The game started with Fenelon hitting a three-pointer to give Kentucky State an early lead, but
Central State came back quickly. The Marauders capitalized on turnovers and went on a 12-7
run, taking a 12-7 lead during the back end of the first quarter.

Kentucky State freshman guard Aaliyah Hayes who statistically had her best game last game
lowered the deficit to 25-23 in the second quarter after capitalizing off the Central State turnover,
but the Marauders hit a three-pointer in the final minute, extending the margin to 28-23 at the
half.

The Marauders took it to the Thorobreds fast and early coming out the half going on a 8-0 run in
the third quarter to take a 37-27 lead. The Thorobreds faced some adversity but responded with
solid defense and clutch shooting. McBroom, a junior guard, tied it at 39-39 with a 3-pointer in
the middle of the fourth quarter.

With the game tied, Fenelon answered again, making another big three-pointer to put the
Thorobreds ahead 46-43 with with two minutes remaining. Hayes closed out the game with one
of two free throws in the final seconds, giving Kentucky State a 51–47 lead.
Apart from Fenelon’s 14 points, Bryant and Williams contributed 13 and 12 points.
