FRANKFORT, Ky. — At a recent town hall meeting, Kentucky State University students talked about several big issues, including the status of the elevators near The Halls, Young Hall, and the New Residence Hall. Dr. Mayberry and President Akakpo promised the attendees that the elevators should be operational by next week. “We are waiting on the company to fix the elevators, but it should be done by next week,” Dr. Mayberry said.
In addition to the elevator repairs, there are plans to promote security in the New Residence Hall student parking lot. The university is in the process of installing cameras to ensure the safety of students and their vehicles. “It’s in the works,” President Akakpo said, emphasizing the administration’s promise to campus safety. Safety within the New Residence Hall was also a big concern, mainly regarding recent problems of break-ins and thefts from students rooms. Dr. Mayberry mentioned that the university is looking into the possibility of installing keypads on doors to boost security. “It’s just going to take some time,” she said, meaning that while the solution is in progress, it may not be right way.
Another big topic discussed was the acceptable response time for staff to address student concerns. The university has set a standard response time of about 48 hours for any matter. This policy aims to ensure that student issues are addressed promptly and efficiently.
President Akakpo also talked about maintenance issues in Chandler and Kentucky Hall showers, assuring students that these facilities would be fixed. “I promised Combs would be fixed, and it was, so I will handle these dorms,” he stated, reinforcing his promise to maintain the university’s buildings.
The town hall meeting highlighted the administration’s dedication to improving campus facilities and ensuring student safety, with several initiatives already underway and more planned for the near future.
