FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 17, 2025) — A shooting during a party at a Kentucky State University dormitory Saturday evening left two people injured and prompted a temporary campus lockdown, university officials said.
The incident occurred at the Young Hall dorm around 1 to 2 a.m. after an off-campus party that got shut down, reportedly called “White Girl Wasted.” This, in turn, made students go back to their dorm. Witnesses say they heard between 15 to 20 gunshots in the area. Blood was seen trailing from the nearby Thorobred Hall to Young Hall and was captured on camera, according to reports.
According to university officials, the two individuals shot were not enrolled students. One victim was treated for minor injuries; the condition of the second victim remains unknown.
In response, the campus was placed on lockdown until 9 a.m. Sunday. Additional security measures were introduced, including mandatory ID checks for anyone on campus after 9 p.m., also known as “checkpoints.” That night of the shooting, there were no “checkpoints,” and it was before the incident that this was a practice they were trying to implement. In addition to that, Kentucky State University does not have 24/7 visitation, and (though not specified), after a certain time, Kentucky State University does not allow visitors on campus. Due to this, there has also been an increased need to hire more RAs on campus in order to ensure both safety and security.
No arrests have been made as of Sunday, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released the names of the victims. Kentucky State University officials said they are cooperating with law enforcement and emphasized that student safety remains a top priority.
