Kentucky State University’s Need For Mascot

FRANKFORT, KY — To represent the Thorobreds and provide campus life with even more spirit, Kentucky State University is searching for a new mascot.

Last week, the university made its search public and invited students who are full of pride and proud of their school to apply for the position. The mascot will be important in creating excitement at sporting events, pep rallies, and Homecoming.

Referring to the announcement, “this is about more than just wearing a costume, we want someone who can entertain the audience, represent KSU, and show off what it means to be a Thorobred.”

Students who are outgoing, not afraid of the spotlight, and ready to perform in front of crowds are eligible to become mascots. Attending home sporting events, connecting with the fans and community, and being a part of important university events like Homecoming.

Students are encouraged to submit their applications via email to the Student Activities Office if they would like to represent the Thorobreds. To make sure the mascot is prepared for the forthcoming athletic season, organizers say the selection process will start shortly, though the deadline has not yet been disclosed.

The university community has long taken pride in KSU’s athletic teams, which are proudly known as the Thorobreds. Leaders now hope that having a lively mascot will improve school culture and foster campus cohesion.

Students can check the university’s official social media pages or visit the KSU Student Engagement Office for additional information.
