Kentucky State University Women’s Volleyball Team to Begin Conference Play 

ALBANY, Ga – The Kentucky State University women’s volleyball team will officially start conference play this week in the tournament at the Jones Brothers HPER Complex at Albany State University. This is a two-day tournament that will include all 14 SIAC teams. 

Kentucky State women’s volleyball opened both of its matches at the SIAC Crossover on Thursday, Sept. 25, falling 3-1 to Benedict and 3-0 to Fort Valley State. Kentucky State finished with 52 kills, led by Ananiah Huguely with 11. Both Leah Tubbs and Laila Wheaton added nine kills each against Benedict. Against Fort Valley State, it was Clayton who led the Thorobreds with 10 kills, while Wheaton and Huguely each added five. Nooks anchored the back row with a team-high of 16 digs, as Clayton and Wheaton combined for four blocks. 

On day two, the final day of the tournament on Friday, Kentucky State also fell to Albany State 3-0 and Savannah State 3-1. Ananiah Huguely led the offensive effort for the Thorobreds with five kills while adding a service ace. Laila Wheaton and Cydne Clayton chipped in with four kills apiece. 

With theThorobreds facing challenges at  the tournament, they set out to bounce back in their next game against the University of Indianapolis on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.
