Fairfield, Ala. — Under the bright Saturday sun at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium, Kentucky State reminded everyone why they’re one of the most dangerous teams in the SIAC right now. The Thorobreds didn’t just beat Miles College they out-worked them, out-hustled them, and out-believed them, rolling to a 38-17 victory that showcased both balance and belief.

Now sitting at 4-2 overall (4-1 SIAC), the Breds looked like a unit finding its stride at the right time. The first quarter set the tone a steady 10-point lead built off confidence and composure. But the second quarter? That’s when they turned it up. Twenty-one unanswered points felt like the exclamation mark on weeks of discipline, film sessions, and accountability.

Quarterback Torrence Bardell led the charge with poise, spreading the ball and keeping the offense in rhythm. Whether it was the strike to Jon McCall for a key touchdown or steady drives built on short passes and smart reads, Bardell showed command. On the ground, the offensive line did their job holding firm and letting KSU’s backs eat up clock and yardage late in the game.

Miles fought hard Brinley Vandiver and Glen Williams both made plays to keep things interesting  but KSU’s defensive front never gave them a real chance to gain momentum. From start to finish, the Breds’ defense played with pride, flying to the ball and feeding off each other’s energy.

But beyond the numbers, this win meant more. It was about resilience  bouncing back from early-season challenges and proving that the Thorobreds aren’t just trying to win games, they’re trying to build a culture. The players talked all week about execution and accountability, and Saturday they showed what that looks like in real time.

“We’re learning how to finish,” one senior said after the game. “Coach told us the difference between good teams and great ones is consistency and that’s what we’re chasing.”

Next up, KSU returns home with momentum and confidence. The road to the conference title isn’t easy, but if this game showed anything, it’s that the Breds have found their identity a mix of hard work, heart, and brotherhood.

Final: Kentucky State 38, Miles 17.
Record: KSU (4-2, 4-1 SIAC)
