By now you should have heard gossip of an anonymous app known as Fizz that has taken the Kentucky State University campus by storm. The app allows users to post completely anonymously; however, this isn’t always a good thing especially in the hands of immature young adults on a college campus.
I’ve noticed that the app gives a voice to those who would normally be deemed a “loser” or “bum” by today’s societal standards. As mean as that sounds it’s the truth: Anonymity gives people the bold, rude and controversial persona they wish they possessed in real life.
I’ve seen everything from mugshots, to name dropping (a term that’s self-explanatory) to personal information being leaked, all by people who are too stupid to know that doxxing a person’s information is a crime.
The app shouldn’t be anonymous to begin with, considering the fact that a lot of its users choose to do nothing productive and instead bash each other, saying things we all know they’d never say in person, telling other people’s business, of course, talking entirely all too much about their sexual activity.
Most will say the app is supposed to be anonymous, and it is, just not for the reason they think. Defenders use that fact as an excuse to be the worst versions of themselves in the safe space anonymity is originally intended to be.
To those who choose to waste their time bullying possible close friends I say, “Look in the mirror and realize you need to direct the hate you force on that app to yourself. You’re the one who deserves it.”
