FRANKFORT, Ky. – Enrollment at Kentucky State University has gone down by 37 students since last school year.
This year, KSU’s freshman class was 348 students, or 19 fewer than the 367 in the fall of 2022, according to Stephanie Mayberry, interim vice provost of Student Affairs.
She presented the information on student enrollment at the KSU Board of Regents meeting on Thursday, Sept. 25.
There are 947 students living on campus, but the university still has some space in the dorms.
Mayberry said there 20 empty beds in Chandler Hall, 32 in Kentucky Hall, 16 in McCullin, 138 in The Halls, and 10 in Young Hall.
Mayberry didn’t speak on the new dorm, Thorobred Hall.
KSU President Koffi Akakpo told the regents the school will try to have Combs Hall open in 2024, but that likely will happen in the spring 2025 because the building was so dirty.
Mayberry also said there was a delay in housing last year, and the university is working to improve the application process and make it earlier. Last year, housing didn’t take applications until July, but now they want to make it earlier. Housing applications for upperclassmen will open in March 2024, and applications for freshmen will open in April 2024.
Back to enrollment, Mayberry shared a slide detailing fall 2023 enrollment:
