FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky State women’s basketball team hosted the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians on Monday, Jan. 27, for Women’s in Sports Night at the William Exum Center. The Thorobreds came out strong, quickly establishing a fast paced rhythm in the opening minutes of the game. Their early offensive dominance put them ahead, but the Magicians weren’t ready to concede defeat.
LeMoyne-Owen, despite the Thorobreds’ early surge, managed to chip away at the lead throughout the second quarter. With aggressive defense and timely shots, the Magicians reduced Kentucky State’s advantage, making it a tight contest. At the break, the Thorobreds held a slim 29-25 lead, with the outcome still very much in question.
The second half saw the Thorobreds battling to maintain their lead. While LeMoyne-Owen continued to press, Kentucky State’s offense remained solid , with key contributions from Aaliyah Hayes who dropped a career high of 17 points. Khalia Bryant who led the team with 13 rebounds and had a season high of 25 points. Along with Diara Mcbroom who led the team and tied her season high with 6 assists. As the clock winded down, the Magicians had an opportunity to make it even, but the Thorobreds’ defense tightened up in the final minutes, securing the 64-61 victory.
The victory improved Kentucky State’s record to 6-12 on the season, as the team continues to build off this momentum while deep into the season .
