BAGDAD, Ky.- Students from Kentucky State University joined more than 10 other schools for a weekend-long campus ministry retreat held Sept. 26–28 at Cedarmore Camp.
With its emphasis on evangelism and discipleship, the retreat drew some 750 students, one of the biggest attendances in recent memory. KSU sent its largest group to date, with twenty-two students in attendance.
A variety of KSU upperclassmen and students from various classifications attended the retreat, which was organized by KSU Campus Minister Xavier McFalls. In addition, McFalls is a state representative for the Kentucky Baptist Convention and the African American Church Catalyst.
Every day started with lakeside worship at 6:45 a.m., followed by the Fields Worship Center’s “Main Session” and “Mega Breakouts,” which were panel-led discussions on subjects like reaching one’s circle of influence, communicating faith naturally, spiritual and sexual purity, and maintaining a regular prayer practice.
Recreational pursuits such as zip lines, volleyball, archery tag, basketball, soccer, fishing, and more were allowed in the afternoons. Additionally, Compass Café, Snack Shack, and a dedicated study area were available to students.
One student remarked, “This retreat really lit a fire in us, It served as a reminder to us of the significance of trusting Jesus and maintaining our faith, particularly while attending college.”- Gabrielle Benjamin.
During a time of significant choices and changes, students returned to college with a fresh desire to spread the gospel and practice their faith.
“This weekend wasn’t just a break from classes,” another student shared. “It was a step forward in our walk with Christ.”- Rima Dixon. “The BCM exists to make a mark, and to mature the disciples from KState to the Nations”.- Xavier Mcfalls.
