Autumn Blair, Sports

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, also known as the SIAC announced on Tuesday, November 3 the plans to continue winter and spring sports come 2021. The 2021 spring sports consist of men and women’s golf, tennis, track & field, softball, and baseball. Although we will witness the return of some sports, the SIAC will not sponsor championships for the following sports: football, women’s volleyball, and men and women’s cross country for the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic year. Individual institutions however may participate in intercollegiate competition in these sports based on unique circumstances. The SIAC men and women’s basketball schedule is expected to begin on January 9, and will consist of 12-14 games, followed by a championship tournament which will include all men and women’s teams. As fans excitedly await the return of winter and spring sports, SIAC Commissioner Gregory Moore stated, “In light of the fluid and dynamic nature of the current COVID-19 crisis, the SIAC will continue to work closely with its member institutions and continue to monitor and evaluate the health and safety risks, while also reserving the option to make scheduling adjustments should current circumstances change”
