FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky State women’s basketball team secured a 70-62 victory
over Spring Hill on Monday night at the William Exum Center in their final home game of the
regular season.
Freshman Aaliyah Hayes led the Thorobreds with a game high 23 points, shooting 8 of 13 from
the field and 6 of 10 from beyond the arc. Junior Diara McBroom contributed 10 rebounds, four
assists, and two steals.
The first quarter featured a back and forth battle with seven lead changes and four ties. In the
closing seconds, McBroom completed a three-point play to give Kentucky State a 17-16 lead.
The Thorobreds built momentum in the second quarter, extending their lead to 35-22. Hayes
added a last-second jumper to send Kentucky State into halftime with a 37-31 advantage.
A three-minute scoring drought by Spring Hill in the third quarter allowed Kentucky State to
take control with a 12-0 run, fueled by four consecutive three pointers from Hayes. The
Thorobreds led 51-37 with just over three minutes left in the quarter.
Spring Hill made a late push, but Kentucky State held on by converting four of six free throws
down the stretch to seal the win.
