FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky State football team has had a remarkable year. Coming off a 2024 season in which the Thorobreds finished 5-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play, the team failed to make the playoffs. Now, in 2025, Kentucky State holds an impressive 8-2 overall record and a 7-1 conference mark.
This season also included a major milestone, as Kentucky State secured its fifth straight win, marking only the second time since 1978 that the program has won five consecutive games.
In just his third season, head coach Felton Huggins Jr. was named the 2025 SIAC Football Coach of the Year. For the first time in school history, the Thorobreds qualified for the playoffs, a milestone that united students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Excitement spread across the campus and community.
Kentucky State played its first playoff game against Newberry College in the opening round of the Super Region Two playoffs but lost 45-24. Even though the season ended in the first round, it remains a historic year for the program — one that will be remembered for years and has fans wondering whether the team will continue its success next season.
