SAVANNAH, Ga. — Kentucky State fought back with everything they had, but the comeback energy came just a little too late as the Thorobreds fell 80–72 to Savannah State on Saturday.
The game didn’t start the way K-State hoped. Savannah State jumped out early, pushed the tempo, and took advantage of a few defensive breakdowns to build a 13-point halftime lead. But if there’s one thing this KSU team doesn’t do, it’s quit.
In the second half, the Thorobreds settled in and started punching back. Sean Paige led the charge, dropping 21 points and giving K-State the spark it needed. His and-one with just over five minutes left cut the Tigers’ lead to seven, and for a moment, the momentum in the gym shifted.
Gregory Melvin also made his presence felt, pulling down 10 rebounds and battling inside to give Kentucky State second-chance opportunities. The Thorobreds kept pushing, kept defending, and kept believing, but Savannah State answered every run with a timely bucket of their own.
KSU walked away with the loss, but not without showing heart and resilience that will matter down the stretch.
The Thorobreds now turn their focus to a home matchup against Clark Atlanta on December 13 at the William Exum Center — a chance to bounce back in front of the K-State family.
